As part of the Cancer Cell Map Initiative (CCMI) outreach program, QBI presents a seminar with Ron Aoyama, Director in the Department of Drug Metabolism at Gilead Sciences in Foster City, CA.
Dr. Aoyama's specialty is in vitro drug metabolism and metabolite identification. He has been in the San Francisco Bay area for the past 22 years and prior to joining Gilead was in the Drug Metabolism departments at the biotechnology companies Rigel, Cytokinetics and Exelixis. He started his industrial career in the Drug Metabolism department at Abbott Laboratories (now AbbVie) located at Abbott Park, IL. Dr. Aoyama received his Ph.D in Drug Metabolism under the direction of the late Professor Bill Trager, studying the Active Site of CYP2C9 in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, School of Pharmacy, University of Washington in Seattle, WA. He has a Master of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the School of Pharmacy, University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
