QBI - Seminar

Development of a CRISPR-Cas13a-Based Diagnostic Assay for Dengue Virus Detection

July

3:00 PM-4:00 PM

QBI presents a seminar with Dr. Hoai Nguyen, faculty member and leader of the Medical Microbiology Research Group at the School of Biotechnology, and Vice Director of the Research Center for Infectious Diseases at International University, Vietnam National University (VNU-HCMC).

Dr. Nguyen’s research focuses on proteomic analysis of bacterial pathogens, with the goal of developing rapid and accurate diagnostic tools for detecting pathogens and their antimicrobial resistance genes. She is also exploring alternative therapies to complement or replace conventional antibiotics. In her role at the Research Center for Infectious Diseases, Dr. Nguyen is a strong advocate for the One Health approach, which recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health in understanding and controlling infectious disease outbreaks.

Talk Title: Development of a CRISPR-Cas13a-Based Diagnostic Assay for Dengue Virus Detection

Dengue is a growing global health threat, with rising incidence in both endemic and non-endemic regions. In this talk, Hoai will present recent work from Ott’s Lab on a CRISPR-Cas13a-based diagnostic platform for dengue virus. The presentation will highlight an in silico pipeline for guide RNA design and share experimental data supporting the assay’s potential for rapid, portable, and highly specific detection, a key step toward practical field deployment.
