Social Media

TikTok Overview

Calling all science communicators to join the QBI Social Media club!

We are very excited to announce that we are starting a QBI TikTok. TikTok is a social app where people upload/watch short videos. This will be a great opportunity to spread awareness about QBI, as well as make science more attainable to a lay audience. We plan on creating short videos explaining commonly asked questions about science or phenomena people are curious about that have a scientific explanation. We also want to use the platform as a way to explain your research and publications in a short, digestible way. In order to do this, we need a group of scientists who are interested in being in these videos. We would help field questions or topics to the group and edit/post the videos, so all you would need to do is film yourself explaining the topic and send us the video. Below are examples of what these videos might look like once they are posted on TikTok.

Please let us know if this is something you would like to find out more about or participate in: events-qbi@ucsf.edu

Vision Guidelines:

  • Our content will focus on science that is relevant to everyday lives, about current topics, or interesting/amusing facts
  • The TikTok is meant to connect with a wide audience, including non-scientists and youths, so make videos clear, simplified, and engaging
  • TikTok is meant to deliver meaningful content in a short time, so the more concise and punchy the better
  • If people want to know more, we can always make follow up videos
  • We want to both put forth original thoughts and respond to other TikTok videos, so if you have an idea for a video explaining something that would be of interest feel free to let us know
