Craig Ennis

Craig Ennis, PhD, is a Senior Scientist at the READY Center.

Craig’s research interests lie at the intersection of genetic engineering, genomics, drug development and discovery. He received a PhD from UC Merced in 2021 where he applied CRISPR tools to study gene regulation in an emerging fungal pathogen. After graduation, he joined Graphite Bio, a clinical stage gene therapy company developing ex vivo therapies for Sickle Cell and b-Thalassemia. There he developed methodologies for characterizing unintended structural variation caused by editing with Cas9 and AAV.

He then joined the team at Regel Therapeutics where he was leading high throughput functional genomics studies (e.g. CRISPRa/i and MPRA) toward the development of gene therapies for neurological and muscular disorders. Craig is driven by the prospect of leveraging CRISPR/Cas tools for the development of therapies for diseases with unmet needs.

Outside of the lab, Craig enjoys exploring San Francisco’s eateries, traveling, baking, and yoga.
