Initiatives

PFAIR was inspired by the legacy of global health pioneer Dr. Paul Farmer, who devoted his life to caring for underserved populations. PFAIR builds on QBI’s collaborative model and aims to bridge research and capacity-building gaps through equitable partnerships with African universities, and research institutions.

The Research and Engineering to Accelerate Discovery (READY) Center is a biomedical research center that brings together expertise across academia and industry to accelerate understanding of disease biology and the development of therapeutics.

Funded by the State of California under Gavin Newsom, the QBI Y.E.S (Youth. Excellence. Science) initiative is a program for students from underprivileged backgrounds to learn more about discovery research and have career opportunities in STEM. Through a six-week paid internship, students will develop the skills needed to pursue a career in the life sciences by working with a mentor in a QBI lab at UCSF.
