QBI presents a seminar with Ron Shamir, Professor emeritus of Computer Science and Bioinformatics at the Blavatnik School of Computer Science at Tel Aviv University.
Dr. Shamir's research focuses on applying computational biology and machine learning to biomedical challenges, from optimizing Parkinson’s disease diagnostics to improving genetic risk prediction across diverse populations.
Computational methods have become essential tools for analyzing complex biological and medical datasets. In this seminar, Dr. Shamir will present recent work from his group focused on applying computational biology and artificial intelligence to challenges in human health.
The talk will highlight efforts to improve the assessment of Parkinson’s disease by refining existing diagnostic scales, as well as the development of PRANA, a deep-learning framework designed to enhance polygenic risk prediction across diverse populations. Together, these projects demonstrate how data-driven approaches can advance disease monitoring and personalized medicine.
A longtime collaborator of QBI, Dr. Shamir will also discuss future plans for a joint QBI/UCSF–Tel Aviv University initiative in computational biology, drug discovery, and artificial intelligence, building on the longstanding partnership between the two institutions.
