QBI - Seminar

Metal Complexes as Diagnostics and Therapeutics

December

13

2:00 PM-3:00 PM

The QBI Online Seminar Series is presenting Gilles Gasser, a professor at Qlife|PSL University, Chimie ParisTech. Dr. Gasser has a MSc and PhD in chemistry from the University of Neuchâtel. In 2007, Gilles was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship at the Ruhr-University Bochum, working on the preparation and bioevaluation of new metal-containing PNA bioconjugates for pharmaceutical and biosensing purposes. At the beginning of 2010, Dr. Gasser started his independent research at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry (now Department of Chemistry) of the University in Zurich, and in March 2011, he became an assistant professor. In October 2016, Gilles joined Chimie ParisTech from the newly created Paris Sciences & Lettres (PSL) University. In Paris, the current research interests of Gilles and his group cover various fields of inorganic chemical biology and medicinal inorganic chemistry, thereby focusing in using metal complexes to modulate the properties of biomolecules.

The Gasser lab is currently working on three different but complementary topics, namely Inorganic Chemical Biology, Medicinal Inorganic Chemistry and Medicinal Organometallic Chemistry. Their projects involve the preparation, characterisation and utilisation of metal complexes for biological or medicinal purposes. The Gasser Lab's objective is to understand, identify and/or influence biological processes in living cells using metal-based compounds. Their research therefore lies at the interface between inorganic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology and biology.
