QBI - Symposium

Health AI Symposium

December

06-07

12:30 PM-7:00 PM

The Quantitative Biosciences Institute (QBI) at UCSF and the Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France in the United States present the "HealthAI Symposium," a French American Innovation event at the University of California, San Francisco from December 6-7, 2023. Supported by renowned research institutions, this science fair aims to bring together different actors from industry, academia and government from the United States and France to talk about AI applications for the health sciences.

Artificial Intelligence, and even more so generative artificial intelligence has revolutionized the healthcare industry, offering an array of innovative applications that have the potential to transform patient care by driving the creation of start-ups and the emergence of new technological solutions worldwide. The applications are manifold: aid in diagnosis, analysis of exams, in particular in imaging, contribution to the discovery of new therapeutic targets and molecules, among others.

Such innovations appeal to multidisciplinary approaches which involve strengthening the interfaces between experts with very different profiles: AI specialists, data analysts, researchers in biology and health, doctors, regulators, businesses and patients. Meanwhile, these increasingly concrete developments require a reflection in terms of ethics and regulation: legal responsibility, risks potential, influence of AI on the role of the doctor, management of learning data sets, bias and discrimination.

This in-person event aims to tackle these various issues, through the prism of Franco-American cooperation, by bringing together experts of those research fields through a succession of panels and sessions, open to both specialists and the general public.
